Baby Update

Double click pictures and they should get bigger for ya.
Well today we had an appointment with our Doctor. We got good news and sort of bad news. The good news is as far as they can tell the Clot is gone! I know super awesome right? I am 150% off bed rest thank Heavens. 14 weeks down would have killed a lesser person! I was sure we wouldn’t make it another week without clean laundry! We also found out for sure that we are having a ...BOY (as seen in picture above). We have known since 14 weeks but, it was so early we didn't trust it 100%. Not to mention the fact that our Doctor did the ultrasound and not the Tech who is amazing!(No offense Dr.O)
The bad news is not really as bad as it is worrisome. The baby has a Choroid Plexus Cyst on one side of his brain. We weren't super sure we would explain it right so here it is straight from Wikipedia:
Choroid plexus cysts (CPCs) are cysts that occur within choroid plexus of the brain. The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.
CPCs can form within this structure and come from fluid trapped within this spongy layer of cells, much like a soap bubble or a blister. CPCs are often called "soft signs" or fetal ultrasound "markers" because some studies have found a weak association between CPCs and fetal chromosome abnormalities.

The Doctor and Ultra sound Tech both said the fact that there are no other markers is a good sign. They also said these cysts often dissipate on their own and nothing comes of it or they can get bigger and then we would go from there. Our Doctor is sending us to a specialist because of the risk for Down syndrome. We knew that the clot may have some adverse affects and it was anyone’s guess what they might be. We did know this was one possibility so we were not completely caught off guard. We are worried not because our baby might have Downs but because there are so many other medical issues he might have that would or could be seriously life threatening. Frankly we would feel blessed to have a perfect spirit sent to us. So as far as News goes we see the specialist on Monday and we will know more then. I just have to say no matter what happens everyone has been surprised we made it this far and we just feel so blessed to be pregnant with a sweet baby Boy. Can you believe it another boy! We are talking names and you are going to cringe when you hear some of them I am sure of it! Everyone does at first:) Rieken is very fond of either Alien baby (because of the face shot above) or Pee hanger (because he is 2). So, we will keep you all waiting until we know more and have narrowed the name list down to real possibilities. Until then be safe and know we love ya.

We will keep you in our prayers--let us know how the appointment with the specialist goes. Sam and I kind of like "Alien Baby" for his name :).

Josh also had a CPS on his brain, so I know the feeling that you are experiencing. Everything was fine with him, and I'm sure all will be well with your baby too. I didn't even know that you were expecting, so congrats Nikki!
